Skeet discipline - american skeet - english skeet - international skeet |
Skeet is an olympic discipline that has its own origins in an american discipline known as around the clock, in which the shooter shotted from 12 platforms corresponding to the hours of the clock. Nowadays skeet is a bit different: the shooter shoots from eight different stands.
The clay pushing engines are located in two cages, one high on the left called pull and one on the right called mark. The Olympic Skeet allows the start without bracing the shotgun while the American Skeet stipulates the start bracing the shotgun.
In the Olympic Skeet (also known as international skeet) the shooter calls the pull and the launch of the clay may be given from 0 to 3 seconds. In skeet discipline the shooter has just 1 shot for every clay and directions and trayectory of the clays are known to the same shooter. In the sequence of the launches, clays may be thrown singularly or simultaneusly from the two cabins (cages).
First skeet appears in Mexico City Olympic Games, in 1968, when Italy won a silver medal with Romano Garagnani. In 1996, in the Olympic Games of Atlanta,
Ennio Falco and Andrea Benelli conquered respectively the gold medal and the bronze medal in skeet discipline. In Athen 2004, the gold medal for Italy, in skeet discipline, came from Andrea Benelli.
